Nose augmentation is an evergreen popular procedure as the nose is something people notice instantly and it affects the front and side profile views. Apart from surgical options, the most sought-after treatment to enhance, augment and reshape the nose is the nose thread lift procedure.

It gives instant results and it also requires minimal to almost no downtime as compared to surgery.

What is Nose Thread Lift?

The Nose Thread Lift is a popular non-surgical procedure from South Korea. It is a quick yet effective treatment to give your nose that extra height and lift, perfect for many Asian noses, which usually lacks height and projection. It is a very quick procedure, hence gaining its’ nickname –  ‘lunch time nose-job”.

If you’re aiming to have a sharper nose bridge and tip, this is what you need. It is the union between surgical implants and dermal fillers.

Reasons why people prefer Nose Thread Lift:

  • Results seen after the procedure!
  • Quick
  • Little to no downtime
  • Does not have the associative potential side effects of fillers i.e. blindness, spread, lumpiness, migration of filler

The Nose Thread Lift can help in:

Bridge: Give a higher and more defined nose bridge

Body of the nose: Give it more height

Tip: Lift the tip of the nose to give it more definition (nicer nose tip)

What threads are the best for Nose Thread Lift?

Nose thread lift threads come in a variety of shapes, lengths and thicknesses. Common factory lengths are 38mm/50mm/60mm.

The 2 most commonly used types of threads are; polydioxanone (PDO) and PolyCaproLactone (PCL). These are very safe materials that are commonly used for surgery amongst other medical procedures.

PolyDiOxanone (PDO):  the most commonly used nose thread lift material in Singapore. PDO has been used in surgical procedures since the 1980s. Hence, we have more experience as to how PDO will perform in terms of stiffness, durability and safety. Although PDO starts breaking down around 9 months, effects can last up to 1 year +. It has also been proven to stimulate the production of collagen to a similar extent as the other materials available.

Once the thread is inserted into the skin, the Polydioxanone acts on the deeper layers of the skin and helps increase the volume in these areas, thereby giving the nose more height, definition and enhancing its’ shape.

PolyCaproLactone (PCL): a newer material, proven to last longer than PDO and has high tensile strength but is somewhat fragile, being soft, flexible and weak to heat (unable to withstand temperature higher than 65º)

PCL threads are also more expensive as compared to PDO Threads.

Here is the table with a quick comparison of PDO and PCL threads.

9-12 months

Up to 24 months+

Melting Point

110º to 115º

58º to 65º

Material is stiffer and harder; Gives more definition and height

More cost effective

Softer & Easy Touch,

Longer Duration

Shorter Duration

Higher risk of granuloma (ie. Hard lumps) formation

Higher risk of breakage and slippage

Too Flexible

Need a lot of threads to achieve the augmented effect

Weak to heat

Taking into account on the pros and cons, at M-Aesthetic Clinic, Dr Ho Rui Ming chooses to use PDO threads which are THICKER, STRONGER and lined with COGS as they provide MORE structure, support and lift to the area of the nose that is being treated.

The cogs on the thread

In the market, there are different types of PDO Threads but the Cog Thread is commonly used for Nose Thread Lift.

PDO threads are inserted into the treatment areas and under the skin, stimulating collagen production and activating skin tissue. Patients can also achieve a tightening effect from the inside and out because the skin tissues will generate new collagen and fibrosis.

How are the threads inserted?

To understand how it works, we have a video of the procedure.

While there are different types of threads available in the market, one must take into consideration the different factors. Dr Ho Rui Ming, with years of experience and have done many nose thread lift procedures on a daily basis, believes that thicker, stronger PDO threads have given our patients good and natural looking results, with the added benefits of safety.

He also recognizes that everyone’s skin and profile is different and therefore requires personalized care.
