High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) or Ultrasound Therapy is a game-changer within the aesthetic industry for being able to provide a powerful lifting, tightening effect and its ability to target stubborn pockets of fat as a secondary effect.
Unlike other skin lifting treatments such as thread lifts, dermal fillers, and anti-wrinkle injections, HIFU does not involve injections – it bypasses superficial skin by delivering precisely focused beams of ultrasound energy to different depths in the skin’s layers.
Treating the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery, HIFU does not duplicate the results of a surgical facelift. However, it is a fantastic alternative and certainly the most effective face lifting procedure currently on the market without surgery.
It works by creating thermal clotting within targeted layers of the skin, which stimulates the natural production of collagen and provides long term and ongoing tightening of the skin.
For fat loss, HIFU targets fat layers below the skin to destroy fat cells permanently. The go-to solution for those wanting to tighten jowl lifting, neck lifting, nasolabial fold and wrinkle reduction, as well as overall skin rejuvenation.
All of these options are NON-SURGICAL and require NO DOWNTIME. Our technology is also able to give the face the desired V-shape, with reported effects that can last up to 1 year!
Our Ultrasound Machine specifically targets deep layers of the skin (Dermis) and the Superficial Muscular Aponeurosis System (SMAS).
Areas where the HIFU treatment can be done
Our High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatment is able to be done on areas such as:
- Face (Cheek area)
- Jaw Line (V Shape Face)
- Neck (Decolletage)
- Double chin
HIFU’s Mechanism of Action
The ultrasound energy can target 2 layers:
– Deep skin layer (Dermis): For collagen stimulation, tightening and firming
– SMAS: For Face-lifting
High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound allows the deepest penetration of energy, targeting deep depths of 3mm and 4.5mm, for skin lifting and tightening.
|3mm depth||At 3mm, the heating of skin tissue is targeted mainly at skin tightening. Radiofrequency procedures are often used for skin tightening via heating the skin. HIFU is also able to stimulate collagen production.
|4.5mm depth||At 4.5mm, lifting effect takes place. The Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System (SMAS) is usually situated at this depth. This means stimulation and tightening of the SMAS layer with the HIFU will provide excellent lifting results.
How is the HIFU treatment performed?
Your face will be cleansed and ultrasound gel will then be applied in preparation for the treatment. The HIFU device which delivers the ultrasound energy will be held over the treatment area.
How long does the whole treatment take?
The HIFU Facelift procedure takes about 60-90 minutes, and NO DOWNTIME is required.
Is it painful?
It is not painful, as numbing cream will be applied before the procedure. However, you may experience slight warmth or prickling sensation on your skin during the procedure. You might feel a mild ache along the jawline. This is due to the ultrasound energy reflecting off the facial contours.
How fast can I see the results?
Results are seen gradually over the next 4-6 weeks. However, due to tissue remodeling, best results are seen after 12 weeks.
How long can HIFU last?
This varies as each person’s skin condition is different. On average, the results can last up to 18 months.
*Disclaimer: Individual results may vary.
Is it a safe procedure?
Yes, it is a safe procedure under the skilled hands of our doctor.
What are the side effects?
You may see slight reddening of the skin on the treated area, but it should subside in a few hours. Your skin may also experience mild soreness.
How many treatments is necessary?
Excellent results can be achieved after just one session of HIFU treatment. An additional treatment may be carried out 6-12 months after the first.
Will my skin worsen and sag even more if I do not continue?
No, it will not. It will at worse return to baseline, before the start of the treatment. That being said, because of the collagen stimulation, tightening and lifting effects, it does helps to prevent further sagging as much as possible.
Who is suitable for HIFU Facelift?
HIFU Facelift is suitable for all skin types but is not advisable if you have the following contraindications:
- Metal implants in the treatment area
- Silicone injections in the treatment area
During your consult, Dr Ho will assess your skin and recommend the areas that are suitable for HIFU treatment.
Can I combine HIFU with other injections?
Yes. In fact, HIFU works very well with other non-invasive injections such as dermal Fillers and Thread Lifts to further lift and give defined definition.
